It was very interesting reading about everyone's media interests and found several reoccurring themes along the way.
First, it is evident that a majority of my peers use the same basic social media, such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. This demonstrates how the growing media giants have begun (or have succeed in) standardizing the way in which people communicate with each other. Another common theme I found is that people generally are taking this course for the same purpose: to learn and analyze how media impacts society. That said, Patrick, Sarah, and Kristen see what I see in media, which is its critical role in shaping the future of society. Kristen specifically warned that we must realize that our creations have consequences, and that we must be responsible about using those creations. We should study how media has revolutionized the human race, and how it will further evolve the way we communicate with each other. As far as entertainment goes, it seems that most people who listen to music and television use Spotify (not Apple Music, thank god), and watch The Office! The Spotify realization is quite interesting because though my peers are only a sample of students my age, Spotify came out on top as their primary music-streaming service. There are plenty of music-streaming sites, such as Apple Music, Pandora Radio, iHeartsRadio, Soundcloud, and more, but Spotify dominates. This again goes back to my argument that companies have begun to expand drastically, and monopolize a certain entertainment industry. A few people I found interesting are David, Patrick, and Jonathan. David is interesting to me because he is a writer yet a computer science major, and has an interesting perspective on human thought and philosophical being. Patrick actually shares a strong interest of human-computer interaction with me! He is passionate about VR, which is something I one day hope to use to develop new treatments depression/anxiety sufferers. Jonathan emphasized his enjoyment and eagerness of reading, a love I also share.

Christian OrtegaI'm in this class because I'm interested in learning the many unique ways media impacts society as a whole, and predicting how currently-developing media will drastically change the future course of human history. At the moment, I find myself invested in analyzing the political effects current media technology is sparking. ArchivesCategories |
